Lecturer (or Reader) in Speech Technology

The Centre for Speech Technology Research in the Department of
Theoretical and Applied Linguistics, University of Edinburgh, is seeking
to hire someone at lecturer or, exceptionally, at reader level, who has
a proven interest and expertise in some area of Speech Technology. The
area of specialisation is open but likely to cover one of: prosody,
dialogue, speech recognition, speech synthesis.

The successful applicant will be an integral member of the Centre for
Speech Technology Research and of the Department of Theoretical and
Applied Linguistics. S/he will have a proven research record, preferably
a demonstrated ability to attract research grants, and be able to
contribute to the teaching of speech technology and related subjects at
postgraduate and undergraduate levels within the context of a general
linguistics department. The successful candidate will be interested in
developing interdisciplinary links within the new department and with
other units in the university.

The appointment will be made on the Lecturer B scale (£23,521 - £30,065
pa) or, exceptionally, at the lower end of the Reader scale (£31,563
pa).

Subject:  English linguistics

Vaxjo University, Sweden, invites applications for the post of Senior
Lecturer in English Linguistics, ref no 1002/99, in the School of
Humanities.

Duties include teaching and supervision of term papers at the undergraduate
level in English linguistics within the ordinary English courses as well as
within the teacher training programmes and the programme for International
Administration with a Foreign Language. In addition duties may include
teaching at the graduate level and other undergraduate teaching  in which
the English section is involved. Duties also include active participation
in syllabus development and other administrative responsibilities.

Qualifications required for a lecturership include both a completed PhD or
evidence of corresponding academic competence and demonstrated teaching
ability. Applicants with no knowledge of Swedish are expected to learn a
Scandinavian language within a period of three years. Equal weight will be
given to the applicant's research and teaching experience. Documented
interest in developments within the field of teacher training would be an
additional recommendation.
