Dear Linguist,
Do you know of any research that has been done on the use of speech
pathology software (e.g., VideoVoice) or pronunciation- and intonation
based software in language classes? I have done a limited experiment
with VideoVoice to teach French intonation in a second language course
and would be interested in sharing notes and results with people who
did similar work.
Thank you,
Hlne Knoerr

Dear colleagues,
We would like to ask what do you think
about the following questions:
1) Specifically _linguistic_, rather than philosophical,
responses to Wittgenstein's 'private language
argument' in his Philosophical Investigations.
This argument discusses the possibility - or
impossibility - of imagining a language only one
speaker uses or invents.
2) Or linguists who have examined Wittgenstein's
private language argument by separating it into
a) the impossibility of a private vocabulary, and
b) the impossibility of private grammar rules.
Thank you,
Mark Griffith

Would anybody happen to know where the following article was
published:
Whitney, William D. (1974) "The relative frequency of simple sounds in
English".
