has a vacancy for the position of

Universitair docent (Assistant Professor/Lecturer) in Danish
90% position (0.9 fte)

The vacancy is in the Danish section of the Scandinavian Department
of the Faculty of Arts. About ten people work in the Scandinavian
Department, of whom the two in the Danish section are responsible
for the Danish teaching program.

The position
- instruction in Danish language and/or literature, including courses
in Danish language proficiency
- supervision of student final theses (scripties)
- curriculum co-ordination and innovation
- independent scholarly research within the research institute CLCG
(Centre for Language and Cognition Groningen) or the research school
Agricola (humanistic studies), depending upon speciality
- participation in the department's management

Candidate's profile
- PhD in hand in Danish language or literature
- native or near-native knowledge of Danish
- good knowledge of at least one other Scandinavian language
- demonstration of research capability in the area of Danish
linguistics, Scandinavian historical linguistics, applied
linguistics, sociolinguistics, or in Nordic (especially Danish)
literature
- experience in teaching at all university levels
- experience with the use of computers in teaching and
research
- a co-operative spirit
- if necessary, adequate competence in Dutch within two years of
appointment
- willingness to live in or near Groningen.

Further information
- The initial appointment will be provisional with the expectation
that the candidate will move into a permanent position after
maximally two years.
- The salary depends upon education and relevant experience of the
candidate, but will be maximally Hfl. 8429,- (before taxes) per month
at a full-time appointment.
- Of the 0.9 fte of which the job consists, 0.5 fte is expected to be
for teaching and 0.4 fte for research.
- The position begins on 1 September 1999.
