The Frank and Ernest cartoon Paul Chapin refers us to is a rerun! Jerry
Sanders had it posted on his office door for so long it yellowed with age.
(The rerun is now posted on MY office door.) I have e-mailed the author, Bob
Thaves, about rerun policy, but he hasn't responded. I thought he might like
to know there were linguists out there noticing his work.

Oops! Bob Thaves DID reply to my question about his cartoon rerun policy,
but I missed it. The reply was posted on one of his webpages. Here it is:

Larry - On rare occasions cartoons are redrawn and distributed to newspapers
if we receive inquiries from readers. Typically, these are strips that have
enjoyed long-term placement on refrigerators or bulletin boards and have
been lost or damaged. We also find that it can be kind of fun to see how the
drawing style s changed!

Thanks, Paul, and it's worth checking out - if you haven't seen it
before. But in the interest of honesty, I feel I should point out that
it is recycled - I clipped and saved this one many, many years ago,
back when I still read the funnies every day!
