Subject:  ESL/EFL; Instructor at Korea University

Korea University, Seoul, has two posts open for ESL/EFL teachers,
starting MArch 1999.

Korea University, founded in 1905, is one of the top three universities
in Korea. Its location in the northeast of Seoul provides easy access to
the many highlights of Korea's capital city.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Institute of Foreign Language Studies (IFLS), offers a variety of
English classes to students of the university. All students are required
to take the Freshman Practical English course and we have a wide variety
of electives at Intermediate and Advanced Level, the four basic strands
of these being General English, English for Academic Purposes, Business
English and Other ESP. There are also opportunities to teach in  a newly
formed programme open to the general public.

DATES
The contract period is for one year, from March 1999 to February 2000.
Contracts may be renewed upon the agreement of both parties.

DUTIES
There are 16 contact hours per week, Monday to Friday, with 9 office
hours in addition. Up to four overtime hours may be allocated at the
discretion of the director of the institute. These will be compensated
at standard overtime rate and be in lieu of the appropriate number of
office hours. Additional teaching may be assigned for one month in each
of the winter and summer breaks. These are paid at standard rate and are
supplemental to salary. Attendance at meetings and commitment to
curriculum development are expected. Time spent on these activities is
in lieu of office hours.

SALARY AND BENEFITS
W1,800,000 ~ W2,000,000 per month, dependent upon qualifications and
experience. In the first contract year, return air fare and three
bonuses, each equivalent to one month's salary, will be paid. In the
second year, four bonuses will be paid. Benefits include subsidised
Korean Health Insurance, office with internet access, guaranteed 8
weeks' paid vacation and on-campus housing with cable television.
Teachers receive one month's severance pay for each year of service.

In spite of Korea's current economic problems, the university salary is
sufficient to sustain a comfortable lifestyle while being able to travel
in Asia and save.
