The Second International Conference on the Mental Lexicon is soliciting
abstracts for paper and poster presentation that bear on the question of
how words are represented in the mind (in terms of their phonological,
orthographic, morphological, syntactic and semantic properties), how they
are linked to one another, and how they are accessed during language use.
We welcome submissions of theoretical, psycholinguistic, neurolinguistic,
computational and neuroimaging research.
The conference will be held at the Institut universitaire de geriatrie de
Montreal, Montreal, Quebec, Canada http//:www.iugm.qc.ca
Selected papers will be published in 2001 in a special issue of Brain and
Language.
HOW TO SUBMIT ABSTRACTS
Abstracts should not exceed 750 words (including references). Conference
participants can be listed as first author on no more than one paper.
Electronic submission (preferred): As e-mail text or MS Word attachment.
e-mail your abstract to: kaufmanh at magellan.umontreal.ca
Hard copy submission (if necessary): 1 copy with your title, author
name(s), affiliation(s), correspondence address and telephone and fax
numbers, and 5 copies with the title only, for blind review. Faxed copies
will NOT be accepted.

CONTEXT
The 3rd International Workshop on Controlled Language Applications (CLAW)
is planned to be held 29-30 April 2000 as a 2-day pre-conference Workshop
in conjunction with the ANLP (Applied Natural Language Processing)/NACLA
(North American Computational Linguistics Association) in Seattle,
Washington, USA at the Westin Hotel.

TOPICS OF INTEREST
Of interest are submissions on all topics relating to the design,
implementation and application of controlled languages, including but not
limited to: human communication protocols; controlled text authoring;
conformance checking systems; controlled language authoring aids; machine
translation; memory-based translation authoring and translation; issues in
Controlled Language design; industrial experience and evolving
requirements; quality and usability evaluations of controlled language.
On the research front, we are grappling with issues like standardization,
design, and evaluation of controlled language systems. On implementation
issues, we are particularly interested in studies regarding author
productivity and document usability. The workshop will give equal emphasis
to the academic, corporate and industrial perspectives, while bringing
together researchers, developers, users, and potential users of controlled
language systems from around the world.
WORKSHOP FORMAT
The two-day workshop will feature invited speakers, paper presentations,
poster sessions, panel discussions, and system demonstrations. More
