Temporary lecturers (docenten) in English language and linguistics

Maximum 70% per person (0.7 fte)
The vacancies are in the modern language section of the English
Department of the Faculty of Arts. The English Department
consists of around 20 staff members and over 400 students.

The position
The department is seeking lecturers who can contribute to the
following areas:
- instruction in English language proficiency (vocabulary, fluency,
  writing skills)
- instruction in English linguistics (especially focused on
  sociolinguistics and language acquisition theory)
- supervision of student honours dissertations (scripties)
- participation in the department's management.

Candidate's profile
Candidates should fulfill the following criteria:
- first degree in English Language & Literature (B.A., M.A. or drs.)
  or equivalent
- for candidates hoping to teach at a higher level, PhD (or virtually
  completed PhD) in an appropriate area of research
- native or near-native command of English
- experience in university teaching, including teaching using
  computers
- a co-operative spirit
- preferably adequate competence in Dutch.

The university offers
The appointment will be on a one-year contract. The salary
depends upon education and relevant experience of the candidate,
but will be minimum Dfl 3990,- and maximum Dfl 7396,- (before
taxes) per month at a full-time appointment. The position begins on
1 September 1999. The University of Groningen is committed to the

Subject:  Syntax position at the University of Alberta

The Department of Linguistics, Faculty of Arts, University of Alberta,
invites applications for a tenure-track position at the junior
Assistant Professor level in theoretical syntax, effective 1 July
2000.  An active research program in one or more of the following
areas is sought: sentence processing, computational linguistics, or
another area that interfaces with the continuing research strengths of
the department.  The candidate should hold the PhD and have
demonstrated teaching and research ability.  The 1999/2000 salary
floor for Assistant Professors is $42,054 Cdn; the figure for 1 July
2000 will be adjusted on the basis of negotiations between the Faculty
Association and the University.

The Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta is engaged in an
