PhD Bursaries

A number of annual bursaries are available for new PhD students,
covering fees for UK and EU students, or an equivalent amount towards
the fee for overseas students.

Completed application forms, accompanied by a PhD research proposal of
approximately 1000 words and an indication of interest in a bursary,
should be returned by Tuesday July 6th 1999.

The Centre carries ESRC Mode A Recognition, and high ratings for its
research and teaching (RAE 5A, and TQA Excellent). All of our PhD
students are required to complete our ESRC recognised research
training scheme during the first two semesters. We are particularly
interested in high quality applications in the following areas:
sociolinguistics; health communication; communication disorders;
attitudes to language; intergenerational communication; corpus
linguistics; media discourse; multimodality in communication;
formulaic language; language learning, teaching and testing;
multilingualism and multilingual education; Welsh/Celtic linguistics
and phonetics.
