Position in a research project on
English and German particle verb formation at the
University of Leipzig.

The research project funded by the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (German Research
Foundation) entitled 'Particle verb formation in
English and German' has a vacancy for a research
position (remuneration: 1/2 BATO-IIa) for 19
hours per week, ideal for doctoral or
postdoctoral research. The position may be taken
up as soon as April 1999 and will last from one
to two years. The project is concerned with
English and German particle verbs ('chill out,
blow up, einlegen, herausfordern'). We are
interested in the morphological, syntactic and
semantic/ conceptual aspects of these complex
verbs from an empirical and a theoretical
perspective. The successful applicant would have
a good knowledge of modern syntactic and/or
semantic theory. A good command of German and
English is necessary, although the candidate
would be concentrating mainly on the English
constructions. Applicants who additionally have
skills in corpus linguistics would be in a
favourable position. Preliminary applications (in
English or German) would include a curriculum
vitae (tabular form acceptable) which indicates
the linguistic qualifications and areas of
linguistic research/ interest of the applicant,
and a list of publications, if any. Preliminary

Subject:  Visiting Assistant Professor at The University of Montana-Missoula

The University of Montana-Missoula has a one-year visiting position for
a linguist with qualifications in applied linguistics with a subfield
specialty in second language acquisition.  To fit into our schedule of
classes, we would like someone who can teach: introduction to
linguistics, second language acquisition and TESL/TEFL methodology.

The successful applicant should have a demonstrated ability in
undergraduate and graduate teaching.  Salary up to $34,000 dependent
