Applications are invited for this full time Research Associate post in the
Department of Speech and Language Sciences. Half of the time in this post
will be allocated to a project funded by Lloyds TSB Foundation for
Scotland - CLEFTNET II.   CLEFTNET II is an extension to a successful
earlier project, where speech and language therapists used
electropalatography (EPG) to assess and treat speech disorders associated
with cleft palate. The project established an innovative form of EPG service
delivery by networking all the cleft palate centres throughout Scotland to
QM University College. The purpose of the second phase of the project is to
establish further centres throughout Scotland in order to provide EPG
assessment and treatment for a wider range of client groups.

The remaining time will be allocated to a role as a Research Associate. This
post will involve conducting research in the area of instrumental analysis
of speech production, and writing academic papers with a view to
publication. Some teaching opportunities are also available.

The post will be offered for two years.

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF LINGUSTICS: The Department of Linguistics at
the University of Hawai'i at Manoa invites applications for a
full-time tenure-track position (position number 84110) to begin
August 1, 2000 or as soon as possible thereafter, pending availability
of position and funding.  Typical teaching arrangements are two
courses, either graduate or undergraduate, per semester, with time for
research.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in linguistics or a related area
(applicants presently pursuing a PhD must offer evidence that the
degree will have been granted by August 1, 2000). Applicants will be
expected to have done high quality research on syntax, with some focus
on Austronesian, and they must be willing to focus more narrowly on
Polynesian. Applicants must be able to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses in their area(s) of specialization.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Expertise in one or more of the following
areas is highly desirable: morphology, semantics and cognitive
science. Other areas in which expertise is desirable include discourse
analysis, pragmatics, and possibly an Asian language.

MINIMUM SALARY: $34,644.00 annually.
