Assistant Professor of English

The Department of English at Christopher Newport University seeks
applications for one assistant professor position (tenure-track) in the
fields of ESL and composition, for probationary appointment for the
1999-2000 academic year. Successful candidates will have the appropriate
doctorate in English or Composition; a commitment to teaching freshman
composition; and demonstrated interest in scholarship and publication.
Also desirable: administrative experience and K-12 teaching experience.

The teaching load is four courses per semester. Salary is competitive.
Christopher Newport University is a comprehensive, state-supported
institution that offers literature, writing, and language arts tracks of
the B.A. in English and an M.A.T. in Language Arts. All members of the
English Department regularly teach Freshman English. The position is
contingent upon funding approval by the Legislature of the Commonwealth
of Virginia.

The Department of Linguistics at Oakland University invites applications
for a tenure track assistant professor, appointment effective August 15,
2000.

We are seeking a theoretical linguist with a broad range of interests
and a specialization in some ancillary area such as L1/L2 acquisition
theory, sociolinguistics, or neurolinguistics.  The appointee will be
expected to teach courses and maintain an active research program in
her or his area of specialization, as well as teach additional courses
in the core areas of linguistics. The position requires a Ph.D in
Linguistics, a strong theoretical background, and a commitment to
research and teaching.
