The Faculty of Arts, York University, invites applications for a
full-time, tenure-track position in English as a Second Language at the
Assistant Professor level, to commence July 1, 2001, subject to
budgetary approval.

The person appointed will have the background and qualifications to
pursue an active programme of research in her/his area of expertise,
demonstrated by a record of publications and conference presentations.

A Ph.D. in TESL or Applied Linguistics and a recognized, university
administeed TESL/TEFL certificate, e.g. at least Ontario Ministry of
Education Additional Qualification Part III Specialist, or such
qualifications as the University of Toronto or Carleton University TESL
Certificates, or the equivalent, are required.

Extensive experience teaching content-based ESL (all skill areas) to
university undergraduates, preferably in credit courses, is required and
experience at the university level in interdisciplinary and Canadian
studies is desirable.  In addition to teaching credit ESL courses,
duties may include teaching in the Faculty of Graduate Studies (Graduate
Programme in Theoretical and Applied Linguistics) and in the TESOL
Certificate Programme.

Salary will depend on qualifications and experience.  Candidates should
submit representative publications when applying.  A letter of
application with an up-to-date curriculum vitae, a statement of research
and teaching interests, and teaching evaluations should be sent to
