Dear Subscribers,

Remember the LINGUIST Cookbook? Deborah Ruuskinen was editing it in
Finland for us, and made a wonderful start. But then other
commitments and opportunities called her away from such volunteer
work, so the cookbook project was put on hold for a while. Now,
however, we have had a good idea: we put the cookbook on the web.

Please take a look at:
       http://linguistlist.org/cookbook/

I believe that the cookbook contains all the recipes that were submitted
to Deborah. However, in some cases, crucial information (like the
submitter's name) has been lost as the cookbook travelled from Finland
to the USA, and from email to text to html. If you submitted a recipe
that isn't credited to you, please let us know so that we can correct
our error.

And--all the rest of you--please submit a recipe! The submission form
is accessible from the main cookbook page (URL above). Given
LINGUIST's 12,000-member subscriber list (from 95 different
countries), we should be able to put together a remarkably
cosmopolitan and interesting cookbook. And, if so, it will be, not
only a practical resource, but also a reminder of the kind of thing
(interest in food!) that unites academic linguists across the world
despite our different theoretical perspectives and backgrounds.

If you have suggestions or reactions to the cookbook, please let us know.

Many thanks,

Helen, Anthony, Andrew
for the LINGUIST Crew: Qian (who did the programming), Karen, Scott,
Lydia, Naomi, James, John, Sudhi, Ljuba
