Post-doctoral position in Cognitive Science at Hanover University,

Opening for a post-doctoral position in a research project funded by
the ``Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft'' (German Science Foundation).
Anticipated starting date is October 1, 2000.  The project LexiKurs
(lexicalization in discourse "Lexikalisierung im Diskurs") has been
running for two years now and is supported for (at least) two
additional years by the DFG. The project is strongly interdisciplinary
oriented, uniting cognitive linguistics and language typology with
computational linguistics and psycholinguistics as well as with
translation science and special language research.

We are looking for a candidate who will conduct research in at least
two of the following fields: metaphors, translation, and expert- lay
                             communication.
The languages of investigation will primarily be English and German,
with French and Spanish providing verificational standards. Therefore
an excellent competence of English is obligatory, as well as a
qualification in linguistics, preferably English linguistics.
Additional knowledge in at least two languages is desirable.
Applicants with knowledge in genetically and areally unrelated
languages are particularly welcome.

The candidate is supposed to have an excellent expertise in cognitive
linguistics and either psycholinguistics or cognitive psychology as
demonstrated in her / his doctoral / PhD thesis.  Furthermore,
demonstrated abilities in empirical methods are expected (statistical
and knowledge-based techniques for the representation of ontologies
and lexicons, as well as experience in cross-language information
retrieval) as well as logical programming skills (Prolog) and a sound
experience in scientific writing. Basic IT knowledge is prerequisite
(Unix/Linux, LaTeX, HTML, Mail).

The candidate is expected to qualify within the research project, i.e.
to prepare his / her professoral dissertation (Habilitation).
