Linguistics Tenure Track Position

The Linguistics Department at the University of Manitoba invites
applications for a full-time tenure-track appointment at the rank of
Assistant Professor beginning July 1, 2001, subject to final budgetary
approval. Salary will be commensurate with experience and
qualifications. The 2000-2001 salary range for this position is
$42,524 - $50,000.

The University of Manitoba is establishing a joint program with Red
River College in Linguistics and American Sign Language/English
Interpretation. The Linguistics Department is looking for an individual
to teach some of the courses that will contribute to the linguistics
component of the joint program. Teaching duties will include courses and
seminars in the structure of ASL and in Interpretation Theory, as well
as courses in general linguistics (e.g., morphology, syntax, semantics).


The successful candidate will have an active research program in the
linguistics of signed languages and will be expected to supervise MA and
PhD students in their area of specialization.

The ideal candidate will be fluent in ASL, will have experience in
ASL/English interpretation and in teaching interpretation, and will be
able to work cooperatively with Red River College and with the Deaf
community in Manitoba.

A doctoral degree in linguistics must be completed by the time of
appointment.
