We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Subject: Resources for relative word frequency of English
A colleague of mine is looking for resources that document the relative
frequency with which various English words are used. She brought to my
attention
a book called "The Teacher's Wordbook of 30,000 Words" by Thorndike and
Lorge. She is interested in locating a copy of this, and we would like
to know if there are any more contemporary resources that serve the same
purpose. We want to find these resources so that we can use them to
design tasks for a functional MRI study that will look at specific areas
of activation in the brain when subjects are given stimuli to test their
generative capability and verbal fluency.

Subject: Looking for tapes to accompany A Drillbook of Spanish Pronunciation
I'm looking for the audio tapes that accompany the book A Drillbook of
Spanish Pronunciation, by Roger L. Hadlich, James S. Holton and Matias
Montes (Harper & Row, 1968; out of print), but have had no luck at all
(and believe me, I've tried) in tracking down copies of these. Would
anyone out there happen to have copies that I might obtain, or know
where I should look to do so?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Eric Holt
