Subject:  Less-Commonly-Taught-Languages Specialist at Michigan State U.

Michigan State University seeks to the fill the position of Academic
Specialist for the Less Commonly Taught Modern Languages (LCTLs). This
is a full-time, annual year appointment in the Department of
Linguistics and Languages starting August 16, 2000 or as soon
thereafter as possible.  The initial appointment is for three years
and will run through August 15, 2003. Further renewals will be
possible, based on need and accomplishments.  Salary is competitive.

The holder of this position will coordinate and promote the teaching
of LCTLs, both in languages already taught at MSU, such as Polish,
Amharic, and Hebrew, and in new languages to be added, such as
Tagalog, Hindi, Ojibwa, and Mayan. Duties and responsibilities include
research and development of models and templates for the teaching of
LCTLs; support of faculty and programs involved with LCTLs in various
units on campus; coordinating the teaching of LCTLs; and monitoring
native-speaker tutors assisting in the teaching of LCTLs.

Applicants must have an M.A. or Ph.D. in Linguistics, Second Language
Acquisition, or a foreign language and literature; native or
near-native ability in at least one foreign language; and familiarity
with computer applications. Applicants should send a letter,
