Linguist/Information Retrieval Engineer

As a Staff Linguist/Informational Retrieval Engineer, you will work
collaboratively with other experts in computational linguistics, AI,
statistics, theoretical linguistics, and lexicography to design and
implement proprietary natural language information retrieval
technologies.

Responsibilities
You will contribute to the design and implementation of linguistic
aspects of Thrownet's dynamic search and navigation product.  You
will work extensively with and manage off-site academic consultants, as
well as on-site linguistic and technical/engineering staff, and will
report to our Chief Systems Architect.

Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
·	M.A. or Ph.D. degree in Linguistics required.
·	A subtle and creative intellect.
·	A desire to work hard and contribute at the highest levels to an
exciting company developing extremely useful, creative products.
·	Knowledge and experience with existing information retrieval systems;
prior knowledge with so-called natural language systems is a plus.
·	Working knowledge of computer programming concepts.
·	Knowledge or experience with XML, HTML, and other Internet
technologies.
·	Experience with design and use of large-scale knowledge bases such as
WordNet, FrameNet, or MindNet in information retrieval.
·	Thorough understanding of, and experience developing, directories or
other classification structures for browsing website content.
·	Ability to work with very well others in both a structured and
unstructured environment.

Subject:  2nd Lang Acquisition and Syntax:Visiting Assistant Proffessor at University ofSouth Carolina,Columbia, SC, USA

Visiting assistant professor of Linguistics at the University of
South Carolina.  The Linguistics Program and the Engish Department
at the University of South Carolina seek to fill a one-year full-time
position (with the possibility of renewal) in the area of second language
acquisition (SLA) and syntax.  The position carries a five-course teaching
load in a semester system (e.g. 2/3).  Among the courses that the visitor
will be expected to teach are two graduate level courses in SLA (an
introduction to SLA and a course on theory and methodology in SLA),
a graduate introduction to syntax.  The teaching assignment will also include
undergraduate linguistics.  The visitor should have the Ph.D. in hand at
the time of appointment.
