We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Dear Linguists,
we want to make the Rotuman dictionary available online.
How can we display special characters like the 5 basic vowels with a macron,
an "a" with one dot underneath, an "a" with one dot on top, and perhaps all
of these in CAPS as well?
Thank you very much for your help.
Yours,
Hans

Asking sci.lang produced no result, so I'm forced to trouble this distinguished List.
Can anyone direct me to any accounts of the growth of etymological
knowledge? Tangential disquisitions welcome too.
Thanks in advance.
