The Center for Human-Computer Communication at the Oregon Graduate
Institute (OGI) has an opening to announce:
Research Assistant ~ Linguist
The research assistant will participate in a multidisciplinary,
team-oriented research project investigating users' spoken, pen-based,
and multimodal input to interactive computer systems.
Applicants with a background and interest in linguistics, especially
in prosodic analysis of spoken dialogue, are strongly encouraged to
apply, although candidates with a background in cognitive science,
psychology, human factors/engineering, or computer science also will
be considered. Candidate must be experienced with speech signal
analysis, including collection and preparation of speech data, use of
speech signal analysis software, and speech signal analysis
conventions. Experience testing and interviewing human subjects
(including children), scoring and analyzing language-oriented data,
using data analysis/statistics software, and performing basic
programming for experimental support also are relevant skills for this
research position. Experience with MS Word for text processing,
database programs such as MS Access, graphics software (Illustrator,
Photoshop) for preparing publications, and HTML or web design would be
a plus.
Prefer applicants with an M.A. in linguistics, plus 2 years work
experience in an academic or corporate research setting.
