We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

From: Ira Noveck <noveck at ISC.CNRS.FR>
Subject: Question on the French reply "Si"

What languages other than French have the reply "Si" as in:
A: Al Gore is not tall.
B: Si.

(which can be glossed as "Your assertion (presupposition) is wrong; in fact,
yes he is tall"). Italian doesn't have it and neither does English.

Can someone direct me to relevant papers on the matter?

Yours,

Ira Noveck

Dear All,
Does anyone have any references of studies on the Spanish language in the
framework of Systemic Functional Linguistics?
