CALL FOR PAPERS

Classics Section--Kentucky Foreign Language Conference--April 19-21,
2001 Deadline for submission of proposals, November 15, 2000

The Classics Section of the 54th annual Kentucky Foreign Language
Conference solicits proposals for papers in three sessions: GENERAL
CLASSICS, LATE ANTIQUE & EARLY CHRISTIAN PHILOLOGY AND LINGUISTICS,
and a session in Latin literature with papers presented exclusively in
Latin. The Conference will be held in Lexington and on the campus of
the University of Kentucky, April 19-21, 2001.  Papers will be 20
minutes in length, followed by a 10-minute discussion period.
Proposals of no more than two pages in length should be sent,
preferably via email, by November 15th to:

Description of specific sessions:

GENERAL CLASSICS - Proposals on any topic pertaining to the language,
literature, or civilization of ancient Greece or Rome, including the
Classical Tradition, may be submitted.

LATE ANTIQUE & EARLY CHRISTIAN PHILOLOGY AND LINGUISTICS - Proposals
are solicited on topics in later or patristic Greek or Latin dealing
with the specific use and evolution of language in the second through
eighth centuries.

Acceptance of your paper for presentation implies a commitment to
register and attend the conference. All presenters must pay the $60
registration fee ($10 for graduate students).

We invite abstracts for twenty-minute talks with a
ten-minute discussion on any aspect of theoretical
linguistics.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION:
Abstracts must be at most one page long on a letter-size
sheet (8"1/2 by 11") with one-inch margins and typed in at
least 11-point font.  An optional second page is permitted
for data and references.  Abstracts must be anonymous.

Submissions are limited to 1 individual and 1 joint abstract
per author.

We strongly encourage electronic submissions.  They should
have the abstract as an attachment and the subject header
"abstract", and include all the author information listed
below in the body of the e-mail.  The acceptable formats are
PC/Mac MS Word or PDF.  The file name of the attachment must
be the same as the title of the abstract or a shortened
version of it.  For phonetic fonts, either SIL IPA93 or IPA
Kiel should be used.  For any unusual fonts, please attach
the font file.

Author information:
     (1) name
     (2) title of abstract
     (3) area (phonology, syntax, etc.)
     (4) key words (no more than 3)
     (5) affiliation(s)
     (6) mailing address
     (7) e-mail address

Postal submissions must include 10 copies of an anonymous
abstract and an index card (3'' by 5'') including the author
information above.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION:
     October 30, 2000, 5:00 pm Pacific Standard Time
     (Abstracts must be received by this time.)

     Mid-December, 2000
