We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.
In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

I am interested in finding an online dictionary (or similar) of French
that is searchable in the pronunciation (as opposed to the orthography).
Ideally, this would allow me to put strings of IPA or similar characters
and it would return all words which include these strings of sounds. If
anyone knows of such a dictionary, please let me know.
Thanks in advance,

Sorry I can't think of a more intelligent way to ask, but... I wonder
if anyone knows of a source of English words with meanings that are
not the sum of their morphological parts, as in BUILDING or AUTHORIZE.
Thanks,
Mimi Lipson
