WORKSHOP ON USER MODELING
FOR CONTEXT-AWARE APPLICATIONS
http://orgwis.gmd.de/~gross/um2001ws/
In conjunction with UM2001
July 13-17, 2001
Sonthofen, Germany

Context-aware applications capture and analyze information about
the current context of a user such as their current physical
location, their past navigation, their technological equipment,
other users in their environment, and so forth. The system then
provides the user with information and functionality that is best
suited to their current situation. This includes information that
is adapted to the user's location, the user's interaction
history, etc., but also information and functionality that
provides a shared context among geographically dispersed users to
facilitate group interaction. In order to adapt the information
and functionality to the current context and the current user a
mapping between a user model and the potential contexts of use
has to be identified.
Topics of interest include:
- user modeling techniques for context aware applications
- learning about users from localization and real world tracking data
- using context models for adaptive services
- group awareness based on group modeling
- personalized context aware services
- contextualized interaction models and interfaces
- nomadic information systems
