We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Dear Linguists,
I am an MA student who intend to conduct a
research on the possible effects of second-language
leaners' meta-linguistic awareness on their oral
performance with specific reference to "Phrasal
Stress".
I am specially interested to see if such an
awareness devloped through such approaches as Metrical
Phonology or language exposure has any positive
effects on their oral performance. If you know of any
relevant studies or sources, please write to me at
mzakery at yahoo.com
Yours Sincerely
Mahboubeh Zakery

Can anyone direct me to literature on the subject of
frequency order of russian words? I've come across
Nicholas J. Brown's Russian Learner's Dictionary of
the top 10,000 most frequently used russian words. Is
this online (in russian or english characters)? Is
there another russian frequency book that is currently
online that I could download?
best,
Melissa Gygi
