The new 14th Edition of the ETHNOLOGUE: LANGUAGES OF THE WORLD is now
available as a two volume set, plus a CD-ROM.
Ethnologue: Languages of the World, 14th Edition, Vol. 1, by Barbara F. Grimes.
ISBN: 1-55671-103-4 (Paper) $44.00.
This volume contains basic information, organized geographically,
about more than 6,800 languages and dialects. Languages are listed
alphabetically by primary name under the country of the main
population. Information includes alternate names, dialects, number of
speakers, multilingualism, and other demographic and sociolinguistic
information, if known. Maps of continents are included.
Ethnologue: Maps and Indexes, 14th Edition, Vol. 2, by Barbara F. Grimes.
ISBN: 1-55671-104-2 (Paper) $36.00.
This volume contains 164 area and country maps. The 'Language Name
Index' section has over 41,000 alternate names for the more than 6,800
languages and dialects listed in volume 1. This makes it possible to
access information about languages by any of their alternate names,
cross-referencing with the applicable entries in volume 1. The
'Language Family Index' section presents linguistic groupings from the
largest to the smallest. The maps and indexes are an indispensable
resource for use with volume 1. The indexes were published previously
as Language Name Index and Language Family Index, and formerly all
maps were in the main volume. This change in organization of
information makes it possible to access language entries and the
relevant maps simultaneously.
Ethnologue CD-ROM: For PC (Windows 95 & later) and Mac.
Includes both volumes in an interactive format, with the maps in color.
ISBN: 1-55671-105-0 $29.95.
Ethnologue Set: Includes both volumes, plus the CD.
ISBN: 1-55671-106-9 $80.00.
Shipping is additional.
