Subject: Literature on Contracted Forms
Dear friends,
Does anyone out there know about any literature on the use/misuse
of contracted forms like *I'm understand that... or *I'll would
like... or simply contracted forms in general? I'm looking for
sources on this matter and so far I've only come up with Kuczaj
"Arguments against Hurford's Aux Copying Rule" (1976) and Bahns
"What Did You Bought? Explaining a Typical Error in the
Acquisition of English" (1991).
Thanks in advance,
Pia Kohlmyr

Subject: Gender and Grammar Errors
Dear fellow netters,
I'm looking into an issue of grammatical errors where I
have found tendencies suggesting gender related errors
in certain areas of grammar in free writing (essays etc).
Does anyone know about research and literature in this
field? In my material e.g. male writers are overrepresented
as regards overgeneralisation of auxiliaries 'be/will'
whereas female writers tend to make more errors with the
realisation of perfective verb forms. How come? of course,
style could have something to do with it but I'd like to
read more about this. Any tips and ideas are welcome.
All the best,
Pia Kohlmyr
