We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was

I have a question to the people from Greece.
Does anybody know if the Gr. kokkalo 'bone' has the
meanings 'ankle' or 'knucklebone' in some Greek
dialects?
I will be very grateful having any answer!

Does anyone know of software that generates (English)
phonetic transcriptions for novel words? I know the best
way to get phonetic interpretations of text is to use
something like the CMU pronouncing dictionary; I'm looking
for some sort of phonetic-rule-based program which can
interpret proper names, etc. that aren't findable in
dictionaries.
I'll post a summary of any responses; thanks for your help -
