We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

Linguists,
I'm interested in prosodic features like stress, accent, and
intonation in both Hindi and Urdu. I'm particularly
interested in the correlates of stress for Hindi-Urdu. I'm
familiar with recent work by Manjari Ohala, Bruce Hayes,
Pramod Kumar Pandey, Rami Nair, Sarmad Hussain (Urdu),
Rebecca Damron (Urdu), and James Harnsberger (Hindi
intonation). Does anyone know of any other recent sources
that might be helpful? Or, if anyone else is currently
doing work relating to these topics in Hindi-Urdu, I'd love
to hear about it.
Thanks,

Dear colleagues
I am compiling a list of professional associations world-wide
dedicated to Sociolinguistics. This list is to be available as an
entry in the forthcoming Concise Encyclopedia of Sociolinguistics
(Elsevier/Pergamon). Sociolinguistics is to be construed broadly as
including not just language variation (including dialectology) and
culture, but language planning, contact, issues of power etc.
Some of the better known associations include NWAV(E), SS
(Sociolinguistics Symposium of Great Britain), American Dialect
Society, SPCL (Society for Pidgin & Creole Linguistics) etc. I would
be grateful if colleagues could provide me with the ff information
(or pass on e-mails of people I should contact):
Name of association
Specialty
Address
Current president/leader
Details of meetings
Journal or newsletter
I will make the final list available to the Linguist List.
