Modified issue #11.2656:
The search for Assistant Professor in Linguistics at Queens
College/Researcher at CUNY RISLUS has been reopened.


Tenure-track Assistant Professor in Fall 2001.  Half-time teaching,
half-time research at Queens College Linguistics and Communication
Disorders and CUNY Research Institute for the Study of Language in
Urban Society (RISLUS), housed at the CUNY Graduate Center.

DUTIES:

To teach and conduct research in the acquisition of literacy by
speakers of languages other than English. Research responsibilities
include conducting basic and applied research on issues of literacy in
a multilingual urban environment. In addition, the successful
candidate will be responsible for developing fundable research
projects. Teaching responsibilities include courses on the development
of reading and writing skills. Emphasis will be placed on addressing
the needs of speakers of languages other than English, especially
those for whom Spanish is the home language. These courses are part of
the undergraduate and graduate programs of the LCD.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in a field related to
language and literacy.  Qualifications include demonstrable research
experience in literacy issues involving second language learners,
especially urban language minority students; ability to teach courses
on developmental reading and writing skills; familiarity with
different kinds of research paradigms; knowledge of sociolinguistics,
psycholinguistics, and first and second language acquisition.
Knowledge of Spanish, of English dialectal variation and of issues
involving Latino students is desirable.

SALARY:		$32,062 - $ 55,930
