Multilingual dictionary of Ethnology

German - English - French - Spanish - Portuguese - Russian - Esperanto
(with partly consideration of further languages)

For some disciplines there are multilingual technical dictionaries
available. For ethnology/anthropology such a book has so far been
missing. Since ethnologists/anthropologists have - for reasons of
their subject - a special need for reading literature in different
languages, such a dictionary should be highly appreciated. If you are
engaged with comparative ethnology/anthropology, you will probably
need to read sources in all the great languages of the world. For the
ability to compare them a multilingual technical dictionary will be of
considerable use. So it should not be missing in any ethnological or
anthropological institute.  Some of the ideas treated in this science
are usually not found in conventional bilingual dictionaries, such as
for example from ethnosociology "couvade", from economic anthropology
"resource management", "treasuring" and with regard to hunting
"antbear" and "atlatl", from technology and ergology "spindlewhorl",
from religion science "transmigration". For words like these a
technical dictionary might be of great value.  This dictionary shows
more than 1,200 entries of ethnological/anthropological interest in
the languages German, English, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian,
and - as far as the words were available - also in Esperanto. The
registers for each language help to find the words that are to be
translated from one language into another.

In einigen Wissenschaften gibt es mehrsprachige Fachwoerterbuecher. In
der Ethnolo-gie fehlte ein solches bisher. Da die Ethnologie wegen
ihres Forschungsgegenstandes ganz besonders auf Literatur in
unterschiedlichen Sprachen angewiesen ist, duerfte ein solches
Woerterbuch innerhalb des Faches sehr von Nutzen sein. Wenn Sie
vergleichende Ethnologie betreiben, werden Sie kaum umhinkommen,
Quellen in den Weltsprachen zu lesen. Um diese miteinander vergleichen
zu koennen, ist ein mehrsprachiger Fachwortschatz sicher hilfreich. Er
sollte in keinem voelkerkundlichen Institut fehlen.  Einige in der
Ethnologie auftretende Begriffe sind in allgemeinen zweisprachigen
Woerterbuechern nicht ohne Weiteres zu finden, so z. B.  aus der
Ethnosoziologie "Couvade", aus der Wirtschaftsethnolo-gie
"Ressourcenmanagement" und "Thesaurierung", aus Technologie und
Ergologie "Spinnwirtel", aus der Religionsethnologie
"Seelenwanderung", Auch Woerter wie im Englischen der Fachausdruck
atlatl und das immer wieder falsch uebersetzte Wort antbear bieten in
der Ethnologie gelegentlich Schwierigkeiten. Hier ist ein
Fachwoerterbuch sicher erwuenscht.  Das vorliegende Woerterbuch bringt
ueber 1.200 ethnologisch relevante Woerter in den Sprachen Deutsch,
Englisch, Franzoesisch, Spanisch, Portugiesisch und Russisch und -
sofern die Woerter verfuegbar waren - auch in Esperanto. Die zu jeder
Sprache gesondert aufgefuehrten Register ermoeglichen ein leichtes
Auffinden der Woerter, die aus einer Sprache in eine andere uebersetzt
werden sollen.

Die Bibliographie fuehrt alle einschlaegigen Titel zum Themenkomplex
Komitativ/Instrumental und Verwandtes auf, die seit Mitte des 19.
Jahrhunderts bis zum Jahr 2000 in den Publikationssprachen Armenisch,
Baskisch, Bulgarisch, Daenisch, Deutsch, Englisch, Estnisch, Finnisch,
Franzoesisch, Friesisch, Georgisch, Italienisch, Katalanisch,
Litauisch, Niederlaendisch, Polnisch, Portugiesisch, Rumaenisch,
Russisch, Schwedisch, Serbokroatisch, Slowakisch, Spanisch,
Tschechisch, Tuerkisch und Ungarisch veroeffentlicht worden sind. Die
Bereiche Morphologie, Syntax, Semantik, Grammatikalisierung,
