SEDERI 13
13th International Conference on English Renaissance Linguistics and
Literature
University of Vigo, Spain, 21-23 March 2002
Call for papers (1st Circular)
The organising committee and the Spanish Society for English Renaissance
Studies cordially invite you to participate in the 13th International
Conference of SEDERI (English Renaissance Linguistics and Literature),
which will be held at the University of Vigo, from 21 to 23 March 2002.
The following keynote speakers have already confirmed their
participation as plenary lecturers: Prof. António Maria de Castro Feijó
(University of Lisbon), Prof. John Drakakis (University of Stirling),
Prof. Francisco Fernández (University of Valencia), Prof. Terttu
Nevalainen (University of Helsinki) and Prof. Jacqueline Pearson
(University of Manchester).
Participants interested in offering 20-minute papers focused on
English Renaissance linguistics and/or literature, must submit for the
consideration of the scientific committee a 200-word abstract both in
printed and in electronic format, the deadline being 31 October 2001.
The printed copy will be addressed to:
SEDERI 13, Departamento de Filoloxía Inglesa
Facultade de Filoloxía e Traducción
Universidade de Vigo, Campus As Lagoas Marcosende
E-36200 Vigo, Spain
The electronic version of the abstract (preferably MS Word or RTF
format) must be sent either on a floppy-disk to the address above or
attached to an e-mail message (sederi13 at uvigo.es). All submissions
should include name(s) and institutional affiliation of the author(s),
as well as telephone, fax and (ordinary) mail and e-mail addresses.
Please indicate if you need an overhead projector or any other
facilities for your presentation. Acceptance of the proposals will be
confirmed by late November 2001.
The University of Vigo was established in 1990. It is a young and
expanding institution, spread over three different campuses in the
vicinity of Vigo, Pontevedra and Ourense. It is presently the second
largest University in Galicia, with around 30,000 students. Its main
campus is located in the beautiful natural environment of the
Lagoas-Marcosende mountainside, 15 kilometres to the southeast of Vigo.
In order to avoid transport to campus, unpredictable heavy rain or
Atlantic gales, characteristic of the on-campus micro-climate, and for
the general convenience of all participants, SEDERI 13 will be held at a
prestigious conference center in the heart of Vigo, which will make it
possible for delegates to enjoy the city, its well-known first-rate
restaurants, the nearby holiday resorts and beaches.
For more information, please contact us at the following email
address sederi13 at uvigo.es or visit our web
http://www.uvigo.es/webs/h04/sederi13
We are looking forward to meeting you all in Vigo.

- AMLaP-2001
This is a call for submissions to the 7th annual conference on Architectures
and Mechanisms for Language Processing (AMLaP-2001), to be held in
Saarbruecken, Germany from September 20-22, 2001.
The aim of the conference is to bring together psychological, computational,
and theoretical perspectives on the cognitive mechanisms which underlie any
aspect of human language processing. Submissions which integrate
experimental psycholinguistic investigations with formal or computational
models of psychological processes are especially encouraged.
Invited Speakers:
Jeff Elman Univerity of California, San Diego
Dan Jurafsky University of Colorado, Boulder
Michael Tomasello MPI for Evolutionary Anthropology, Leipzig
- SPECIAL SESSION
This years conference will also include a special session on the theme:
"Experience-based Models of Language Processing"
For this session, we strongly encourage relevant submissions on topics
including (but not restricted to):
* Models whose mechanisms are derived on the basis of experience
(e.g. statistical, connectionist, memory-based)
* The use of corpora as a model of linguistic experience
* Experimental evidence addressing the role of experience/exposure
* Combined models of language acquisition and performance
Papers for this session should be submitted via the normal submission
procedure. Assuming a sufficient number and quality of submissions for the
Conference special session, we intend to publish a special issue of the
recently established journal Cognitive Science Quarterly.
- SUBMISSIONS
The deadline for the submission of abstracts of both spoken and poster
presentations is Monday, June 11th 2001.
Abstracts should be no longer than 400 words (excluding references), and
should be in plain ASCII text.
* At the top of the abstract, please include authors'
names, affiliations, and email addresses
* Please leave several blank lines before indicating
whether the abstract is for consideration as a PAPER
or as a POSTER, and giving the title. Abstracts rejected
as papers will automatically be considered as posters
unless explicit instructions to the contrary are given.
Abstracts should be submitted by email to: submissions at amlap.org
The subject of the message should be: "abstract submission".
Notifications of acceptance will be sent before July 13th.
- LOCATION
AMLaP will be held in the Saarbruecken Castle (Schloss) located in
central Saarbruecken, overlooking the Saar river and the city. The Schloss
is a modernly renovated castle providing both a stimulating setting and
excellent conference facilities. Saarbruecken is located in south-western
Germany on the French border and about 100km from Luxemburg.
