The Journal of Universal Language calls for papers.

Gratitude:  As a token of our gratitude, around $900-1,000 will
	    be given to the authors whose paper will appear in
	    the Journal.

Topic Areas:
        The Journal of Universal Language is concern with
        all aspects of artificial language, and universality in
        language, communication & culture in language,
        endangered language, and language typology.
        The editors encourage the submission of papers on
        proposed themes as well as on other topics relevant to
        the interest of the Journal of Universal Language. Each
        volume contains two issues, published in March and
        September. The language of publication is English.

Submission:
        Three paper copies of the manuscript should be submitted,
        accompanied by a cover letter which includes the author's
        name, affiliation, address, and home or office phone number.

Format:
        1. The length of manuscripts should not exceed 25 pages.
        2. A 200-word abstract should be given at the beginning of
        manuscripts.
        3. Manuscripts should be submitted on A4 paper, with the
        margins of at least  4cm on all four sides of each sheet.
        They may be single-spaced and/or double-sided, if desired.

Spanish in Contact with Other Languages in the Ibero-American

Submissions for twenty-minute presentations are invited on the
following general topics related to Spanish in the United States
and Spanish in contact with other languages in the Ibero-
American world: language policy and planning, language
variation, discourse analysis, language maintenance and shift,
language attitudes, language development, testing, heritage
language education, language in public life, and other relevant
(socio)linguistic topics.

Those interested in presenting a paper at the Conference must
submit five copies of an anonymous one-page abstract to the
address indicated below. Abstracts must be accompanied by a
separate page indicating the title of the paper, your name,
affiliation, address at which you wish to receive notification
concerning acceptance of your abstract, telephone number
(including fax and home phone number), and e-mail address.  An
additional page with bibliography and examples may be included,
if necessary.  E-mail submissions will not be accepted.

Abstracts must be received by NOVEMBER 1, 2001.  Queries and
abstracts should be addressed to:

Se solicitan resúmenes ('abstracts') de investigaciones sobre el
español en Estados Unidos y el español en contacto con otras
lenguas en el mundo iberoamericano: lenguas en contacto y
desplazamiento lingüístico, variación lingüística, análisis del
discurso, política y planificación lingüística, mantenimiento y
pérdida de lenguas, actitudes lingüísticas, enseñanza de L1 y L2
en situaciones de contacto, etnografía de la comunicación,
antropología lingüística y otros temas de la sociolingüística y
la sociología del lenguaje.

Los interesados en presentar trabajos durante el congreso deben
someter cinco copias de un resumen de una página de extensión,
acompañado de otra página con el título de la ponencia, nombre
del ponente, afiliación, dirección de la universidad, número de
teléfono, número de fax, e-mail, etc. al cual desea recibir
respuesta de la aceptación del resumen y de cualquier otra
información sobre el evento. Si es necesario, puede incluir una
nota bibliográfica junto al resumen. No se aceptarán resúmenes
por e-mail ni por fax.

La fecha límite para recibir el resumen es el 1ro de noviembre
de 2001. El resumen debe enviarse a la atención de:

CALL FOR PAPERS

Papers are solicited on all aspects of the origin and evolution of
language, from any relevant discipline, including Anthropology,
Archaeology, Artificial Intelligence, Biology, Cognitive Science,
Ethology, Genetics, Linguistics, Neuroscience, Palaeontology, and
Psychology.  It is anticipated that papers will be presented in 25
minutes, with 5 minutes for discussion.  Papers will be accepted on the
basis of submitted abstracts, refereed by independent assessors.  Some
papers not accepted as talks will be accepted as posters.

SUBMISSION OF ABSTRACTS

Deadline: October 31st, 2001.

Length limit: 1 single page, with reasonable margins (at least 1 inch
(2.5cm)
all round, in print no smaller than 10pt, and preferably larger)

Format: A MSWord.doc file, modified from the template downloadable from
the website (see above).

Submission: Electronically --- attach your MSWord formatted abstract to
an email message sent to evolang2002 at ling.ed.ac.uk .  Do not attempt to
include your abstract in the body of your message.
