English Literary and Linguistic Studies at Newcastle is a progressive,
research-led Department which is entering an exciting phase of
expansion. An Arts and Humanities Research Board (AHRB) grant has just
been awarded within the department and we are presently looking to
fill the following post: a Ph.D. studentship with full tuition and
maintenance allowance for three years, commencing Oct 1, 2001.
The deadline for application is June 13, 2001.
Ph.D. studentship
This Ph.D. studentship will be associated with a project on
Nuuchahnulth Grammar funded by the AHRB. The tuition fees and
maintenance costs of the successful applicant (for three years)
will be covered by the research award. The student will carry out
research on some aspect of the morphology and/or syntax of
Nuuchahnulth, while working as part of the research team.
The Principal Investigator for the project, Dr. John Stonham,
will act as the thesis supervisor.
Applicants should have a good (2i or higher) first degree in
Linguistics, and should preferably have training in morphology
and/or syntax. Usually, they will hold, or be about to complete,
a first postgraduate degree in Linguistics (normally an MA or MPhil).
Further terms and conditions are set out in the AHRB's Guide to
Postgraduate Studentships in the Humanities at:
