ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF HEBREW LANGUAGE
The Dept. of African & Asian Langs. & Lits. (AALL) at the University
of Florida (UF) invites applications for a tenure track position in
Hebrew language, effective August 2002.
AALL teaching expectations will include the following within the
boundaries of four courses per academic year: (1) modern Hebrew
language at all levels, and (2) courses in the applicant's areas of
specialization. The preferred area of specialization is Hebrew
(applied) linguistics. The department will consider applicants in
Hebrew language and literature as well.
The deadline for receipt of application is January 11, 2001. The
search, however, will continue until a suitable candidate is
identified. The selected candidate should have the PhD in hand at
time of appointment and have native or near native command of Hebrew,
and the ability to teach courses in both Hebrew and English. The
salary is negotiable and competitive. Possible affiliations include
the Program of Linguistics and Jewish Studies, depending on the
candidate's interest and qualifications, and the department's needs.
Application consists of (1) a letter indicating interest in the
position, (2) a current CV, (3) names and addresses (including
telephones, faxes and e-mails) of three referees (who should write
directly to the address below), and (4) two samples of publications and
one or two chapters of the dissertation for recent recipients of the

The Hebrew program at UF offers a minor in Hebrew and an
Interdisciplinary degree in Near Eastern Languages and Cultures
(Arabic and Hebrew tracks). UF is home to the Price Library of
Judaica. Founded in 1977, this circulating research library now holds
over 70,000 volumes and constitutes a regional center of excellence in
its subject field. The library's circulating holdings are
concentrated in twentieth century materials in all languages pertinent
to the scholarly examination of the Jewish experience from antiquity
to the present day in all geographical areas.
