Subject:  Announcement of IADA conferences


The International Association for Dialogue Analysis (IADA) announces the
following forthcoming conferences:

1) 2002: Workshop on "Dialogue Analysis in and around the multicultural
classroom", April, 18-20, in Utrecht. This conference is organized by
organized by Robert Maier and Wolfgang Herrlitz (both University of Utrecht).
This thematic workshop will bring together 50/60 scholars discussing
problems of interactions between children in multicultural schools and
outside of it, between pupils and teachers and also between the school and
the community. Special attention will be given to multicultural settings,
or in other words to classes and schools with children having various
cultural backgrounds.

The following keynote speakers have been invited: Professor Malcolm
Coulthard, University of Birmingham, Prof. Rik Pinxten, University of
Ghent, Prof. Marc Verlot, University of Ghent, Prof. Wolfgang Herrlitz,
University of Utrecht.

2) 2002: Argumentation in dialogic interaction, July, 1-4, in Lugano. The
conference will be co-sponsored by three international associations: the
International Society for the Study of Argumentation (ISSA, Amsterdam), the
International Association for the Study of Controversies (Tel Aviv) and the
International Association for Dialogue Analysis (Bologna). The Programme
Committee consists of representatives of these associations and the Dean
of the Faculty of Communication Sciences of the University of Lugano (Frans
van Eemeren, Marcelo Dascal, Sorin Stati and Eddo Rigotti respectively).
			
The program of the conference includes a few plenary sessions and a small
number of concurrent sessions (Dialogue before a court of law, Discussion
in parliament, Argumentation in talk shows, Discourse in therapeutic
practices and Discourse in other situations involving persuasion). Proposals
of creating other sections could be accepted. The official conference
language is  English. Among the keynote speakers and the organizers of the
concurrent sessions are: Karin Aijmer, Marina Bondi, Cornelia Ilie, Alan
Gross, Jonathan Cole, Marcelo Dascal, Paul Drew, Frans van Eemeren, Sally
Jackson, Douglas Walton, Ruth Wodak, and Edda Weigand.
