Dear Sir or Madam,
I would like to take this opportunity to inform you of the fact that
the "Dossier 01/2000" of "Spektrum der Wissenschaft" which is the
German-language edition of "Scientific American" had the topic "Die
Evolution der Sprache" (The evolution of language) and had a series of
articles by Bernard Victori, Luigi Luca Cavalli-Sforza, Colin Renfrew,
Vera E. Binder, Thomas W. Gamkrelidse, Joseph Greenberg, Merritt
Ruhlen, Peter Bellwood, William Wang, Derek Bickerton et.al. on this
topic (all had appeared in earlier regular editions of "Spektrum der
Wissenschaft" and were translated into German). I don't know whether
"Scientific American" had such an edition on evolution of language as
well.
Best wishes
Christopher Schmidt

Dear editors,
A character in the new Star Trek series called Enterprise (it is set 100 years
before Star Trek the first series) has a major character who is a linguist. In
the first episode, the captain convinces her to join his crew by playing a
language that has never been studied before: Klingon.
