 ==========================================================================
The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

The Department of Linguistics at Northwestern University invites
applications for a two-year full-time non-renewable Mellon
Postdoctoral Fellowship beginning September 1, 2002. We are primarily
interested in recent Ph.D.s in any subfield of linguistics who have
analyzed experimental, field, or corpus data in order to address
theoretical issues. The College Mellon Selection Committee especially
welcomes applicants who have research interests in Latino Studies,
Islamic Studies, or Classical Studies.

Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications. Mellon
fellows are expected to participate fully in Northwestern's
interdisciplinary research environment, teach two courses per year
(one undergraduate, one graduate), and present one colloquium per

Applications should include a CV, statements of research and teaching
interests, teaching evaluations (if available), and publications.
(Applications by fax or e-mail cannot be accepted.) Candidates should
arrange to have 3-4 letters of reference, one of which addresses the
applicant's teaching qualifications, sent directly to the search
committee before the deadline.

especially welcome.
