The Ninth Annual Meeting of the International Association of World
Englishes (IAWE) will be held at the University of Illinois,
Urbana-Champaign, 17-20 October, 2002.

We invite abstracts of 20-minute papers and 3 hour colloquia on all
aspects of World Englishes, including:

Grammatical descriptions of world Englishes
Discourse Strategies
Genre Analysis
Second/Foreign Language Acquisition/Pedagogy
Evaluation, testing, and intelligibility
Code-switching, mixing, and  borrowing
Power, ideology, and identity
Planning and politics
Attrition: Impact/influence of English on the
	structures of indigenous languages
English in media and advertising

Abstract Deadline: 1 May, 2002.

Length of abstract of individual papers: no more than 400 words
Colloquium abstracts: 500 words + individual abstracts

Send 7 anonymous copies of your abstract, with your name, affiliation,
address (email/snailmail) on a separate sheet, on/before the deadline

Subject:  International Seminar on Lesser Used Languages (SILM)


We have the pleasure to present you the International Seminar on
Lesser Used Languages (SILM). One of the core institutions promoting
this minority language, the Royal Academy of Valencian Culture (RACV),
together with the Valencian Language Writer's Association (AELLVA) is
arranging the International Seminar on Lesser Used Languages (SILM) to
be hold in Valencia City (Spain) next July 11th to 12th. This first
edition of the Seminar will be devoted to Lesser Used Languages in the
European Union. We hope this information will be interesting to the
linguisticals resources of your organisation and/or for close updates
of your web site.
