COMPUTATIONAL LINGUIST: The Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS)
and Department of Psychology at the University of Memphis invite
applications for a postdoctoral position in computational linguistic.
The ideal candidate for this position will have a Ph.D. in
linguistics, cognitive science or related discipline with a strong
interest in natural language processing. This position will involve
the investigation of reading comprehension strategies and the
development and testing of an automated strategy training system the
development and testing of automated measures of coherence. Therefore,
a strong knowledge of one or more programming languages (C++, Java,
Visual Basic, etc.) is a prerequisite. Furthermore, knowledge of (and
interest in) cognitive psychology and linguistics is required. This
project on automated measures of coherence is one of the many research
projects in the Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at the
University of Memphis.
The IIS is an interdisciplinary program that includes faculty in
Psychology, Computer Science, Statistics, Physics, Engineering and
other fields that investigate intelligent systems in humans and
computers. The Psychology Department currently employs 33 full-time
faculty and offers Ph.D. degrees in clinical, school, and experimental
psychology.
