We'd like to remind readers that the responses to queries are usually
best posted to the individual asking the question. That individual is
then strongly encouraged to post a summary to the list. This policy was
instituted to help control the huge volume of mail on LINGUIST; so we
would appreciate your cooperating with it whenever it seems appropriate.

In addition to posting a summary, we'd like to remind people that it
is usually a good idea to personally thank those individuals who have
taken the trouble to respond to the query.

Subject: Automatic Conversion of UMLS data into Wordnet format.

Dear Linguistists,

I have a software which works well with wordnet dictionaries and would
like to replace/augment them with the data contained in the
UMLS. Before start coding myself, I would like to know if there is any
work done on this topic, and if so I would appreciate a reference to
it.Specifically, I do not want to "map" UMLS onto Wordnet or viceversa
(I am aware of the beautiful work done on this topic e.g. by Burgun
and Bodenreider ). I would like to "simply" generate the UMLS data in
the same format as in WordNet so that I could make direct use of
application(s) which expect data in that format.

Burgun, A., Bodenreider, O. (2001) Comparing terms, concepts and semantic
classes in WordNet and the Unified Medical Language System, Proceedings
NAACL Workshop, "WordNet and Other Lexical Resources: Applications,
Extensions and Customizations", 77-82.

I would appreciate your feedback.
Regards and thanks
with compliments

I would be grateful if anyone could provide me with a source for an
arabic corpus for my research.

Also, does anyone know of a programme which extracts word combinations
from arabic texts?

I thank you very much for your cooperation.

Best regards
