Dear Colleagues and Friends
I am writing with three announcements involving
forensic linguistics/language and law at Cardiff
University.
Firstly, it is my great pleasure to announce that
Professor Malcolm Coulthard has been appointed as
Honorary Professor here at the Centre for
Language and Communication Research at Cardiff
University. This prestigious position is
effective immediately and we will be
collaborating on a number of projects - about
some of which more below - as we move towards the
establishment of a Centre for Research in
Language and Law here in Cardiff.
Secondly, I wanted to draw your attention to two
new Masters level programmes in Forensic
Linguistics, currently recruiting and due to
begin (subject to final validation) in September
2002. Students take a combination of modules in
descriptive linguistics (including discourse
analysis, systemic functional linguistics and
corpus linguistics, as well as optional modules
in sociolinguistics, lexis and phonology) and two
modules in forensic linguistics/language and law,
covering both the analytic and the investigative
dimensions of the field.
Full details of the MA degrees (and the
associated postgraduate certificate and diploma
in forensic linguistics) may be found at:
http://www.cf.ac.uk/encap/langcom/janetcotterill/forensiclinguistics/postgrad.html
Finally, I wanted to signal that the five-day
intensive International Summer School in Forensic
Linguistic Analysis, which we have run for the
past two years, will again be taking place in
mid-September 2002.
Details of last year's summer school are
available at:
http://www.cf.ac.uk/encap/langcom/janetcotterill/forensiclinguistics/summerschool.html
I hope to have updated details for 2002 up on
this site as soon as they have been finalised.
Please direct any queries about any of the above
