The University Charles de Gaulle, at Lille (an hour away from Paris or
Brussels on the TGV, two from London on the Eurostar) is engaged in a
programme co-ordinating its teaching of languages for specialists of
other disciplines. Towards this, it has set up a computerised resource
centre and has the necessary strategic will at managing level
(president and vice-president of the university) to make sure this
programme gets a high ranking priority.

Several colleagues at maître de conférences level (lecturer) have
been appointed with this job profile.

For the academic year 2002-2003, the University has the possibility of
opening a post for someone who has an actual experience in the field
of teaching English (or indeed other languages) for specialists of
other disciplines and who, preferably, has an experience with
computers and computerised teaching aids and methods.

The person appointed would have a 7 hours/week teaching load (this
could be negotiated if the involvement in programming teaching aids on
computers was significant) and would be expected to initiate a
research programme involving colleagues teaching languages (English
and other, particularly Spanish and German) to specialists of other
disciplines.  The offered position would be at professor level.

The appointment would be for a full academic year (10 months,
September to June), alternatively it could be broken down into two
academic "semesters" (September/January; February/June), in which case
two different persons could apply. An arrangement whereby so many
monthly appointments would be suggested, could eventually be
acceptable but is far from being the first choice of the university.

A tenured professorship with the same job profile will probably be
opened in September 2003.
