The LINGUIST List strongly encourages employers to use
non-discriminatory standards in hiring policy. In particular we urge
that employers do not discriminate on the grounds of race, ethnicity,
nationality, age, religion, gender, or sexual orientation. However, we
have no means of enforcing these standards.

Job seekers should pay special attention to language in ads regarding
employment requirements and are encouraged to consult our international
employment page http://linguistlist.org/jobnet.html.

This page has been set up so that people can report on the employment
standards of various countries.

PostDoc at the CogSci Gaduate School at the University of Osnabrueck

The Institute of Cognitive Science at the University of Osnabrueck
(Germany) seeks applicants for a three-year Postdoctoral position in
Cognitive Science starting in July 2002.

Funded by the German academic exchange program DAAD, the position
carries a salary according to scale BAT IIa between about (Euro)
37.000 and 45.000 p.a., depending on age and family status. The
primary responsibility will be the coordination of the newly-funded
doctoral program in Cognitive Science at the University of
Osnabrueck. In addition, the fellow will be expected to teach a single
graduate seminar each semester, conduct research in his or her field,
and to participate actively in the life of the department.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Cognitive Science or component
field, experience in graduate advising, and enthusiasm for the
field. They should be fluent in English and ideally also have some
knowledge of German.

The University of Osnabrueck has the only undergraduate program in
Cognitive Science in Germany, founded in 1998 as an international
Program. This rapidly-growing program has attracted over 80 students
annually from many countries over the last years. In 2001, we admitted
our first Masters students and in 2002 we expect to admit up to ten
Ph.D. candidates. Major areas of Cognitive Science research are
artificial intelligence, cognitive psychology, computer science,
(computational) linguistics, mathematics, neuroinformatics,
neurobiology, and philosophy. Languages of instruction are English and
German.

The University of Osnabrueck strives for an increase in the number of
women in academic employment. Women are therefore especially
encouraged to submit their applications and will be preferentially
considered provided they are equally qualified. Equally qualified
disabled candidates will also be given preference. There is an option
for part-time employment.

Please send a letter of application accompanied by a CV, a list of
publications, and the names of two referees to the Director of the
Cognitive Science Graduate School, Professor Peter Bosch, Institute of
Cognitive Science, Kolpingstr. 7, 49069 Osnabrueck, Germany, or write
for further information to pbosch at uos.de. Letters of application
should be received by April 7, 2002.
