ANNOUNCING:

The 5th Macedonian-North American Conference on Macedonian Studies

to be held one of the first three weekends in May 2003 (exact date
still to be decided) at the Ohio State University, in Columbus, Ohio.

This conference brings together scholars in the humanities and social
sciences from the United States, Canada and the Republic of Macedonia
to report on and discuss their research on Macedonian topics.  For
this conference, papers are being sought primarily in linguistics but
topics in literature, history, and anthropology are also of interest
and are solicited.  The conference proceedings will be published in
some form, most likely as an issue of Ohio State University Working
Papers in Slavic Studies.

Featured speakers are:

	Zuzana Topolinska, Macedonian Academy of Sciences
	Horace G. Lunt, Harvard University

If you are interested, and are a North American scholar (by birth, by
citizenship, or by current affiliation), please send a brief
expression of interest by JULY 15, 2002, with your name, affiliation,
mailing address, and e-mail address, and a tentative title for your
proposed paper by regular mail to:

                            Second Call for Papers

The Unish Research Center at Sejong University is pleased to announce
its Second Call for Papers: The Journal of Universal Language 3:2.


I. HONORARIUM
As a token of our gratitude, the contributors whose paper appears in
the Journal of Universal Language will be awarded around $900-$1,000.


II. TOPICS OF INTEREST

The Journal of Universal Language, which will be published in
September 2002, is open to all those contributions which deal with a
topic related to the followings:

 --various areas of artificial language,
 --universality in language,
 --communication & culture in language,
 --endangered language,
 --language typology.

The editors encourage the submission of papers on proposed themes as
well as on other topics relevant to the interest of the Journal of
Universal Language.


III. IMPORTANT DATES

   15 July 2002: deadline for receipt of papers
   15 August 2002: notification of acceptance
   15 September 2002: camera-ready final version


IV. SUBMISSIONS

1. Papers should not exceed 25 A4 pages (excluding references).

2. A 200-word abstract should be given at the beginning of
manuscripts.

3. For hard copy submissions, please send 3 copies, accompanied by a
cover letter which includes the title, author(s), affiliation(s),
contact author's e-mail address, postal address, and telephone
numbers, to:

4. Electronic submissions are acceptable. Acceptable file formats are
