Argument Structure in Delhi

The department of linguistics, University of Delhi in collaboration
with the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL) is organising a
conference on Argument Structure from January 5-7, 2003 at Delhi.
Howard Lasnik of the University of Conneticut is the keynote
speaker. We invite abstracts not exceeding two A4 size pages
(inclusive of data and 12 pt font size) on the above theme by August
1, 2002. Scholars working in the areas of LFG, HPSG, Functional/
Computational Linguistics, Language Acquisition/ Psycholinguistics are
also welcome to submit abstracts as we intend to have a comprehensive
coverage of the issue of Argument Structure from different
theoretical/ empirical perspectives.

For details with respect to the issues that are of interest for this
conference, please refer to our earlier announcement of 15th April in
the Linguist List.

Abstracts may be sent as email attachments (Word, RTF, PDF only) to
the following and snail-mail abstracts (in 5 copies) may be sent to

Instructions:

Abstracts for papers in any area of linguistics are welcome, although
proposals on the theme of "Language variation, contact and change:
Focus on the Pacific Rim Crossroads" are particularly encouraged.
Presentation time for papers is limited to twenty minutes plus ten
minutes for discussion.  Only one abstract as single author and a
second as co-author will be accepted from any one individual.
Submissions by graduate students are welcome, and students are
eligible for the Helmut Esau Prize, a $250 cash award made annually
for the best student paper.  Abstracts should be 250-500 words. OVERLY
LONG ABSTRACTS WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED. Abstracts should summarize the
main points of the paper and describe key aspects of the data,
methodology, and argumentation. Use of special font items such as
phonetic symbols or branching diagrams should be kept to a bare
minimum. Abstracts will be published AS RECEIVED in a booklet for
distribution at the meeting.  At the beginning of the abstract write
the title of the paper. At the end of the abstract repeat the title
and also list the author's name (if more than one author, list names
in the order they should appear in the program), academic affiliation,
mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address.  It is
essential that the cover message also include the e-mail address,
telephone number, and postal address where the author may be reached
during the summer.  Abstracts should be e-mailed to pjgingiss at uh.edu
as a Microsoft Word attachment, or, if Word is not available, as an
RTF or ASCII file. Note that IPA symbols and other special font items
often do not travel well electronically. In addition to sending the
abstract as an attachment, please paste the text of the abstract into
the e-mail message itself. Authors who do not have access to e-mail
may send a disk copy with a paper copy of their abstract to:

Submitters will receive an e-mail reply notifying them that their
abstracts have been received and will be considered. If such
notification has not been received within one week, that means the
abstract did not reach its destination and should be re-sent.

Authors will be notified by early July as to whether their papers have
or have not been accepted.

Participation in LASSO is a privilege of membership; this means that
an individual must be a current member in order to be listed in the
conference program.
