***NEW: BEST ABSTRACT AWARD: Outstanding student abstract may be
awarded up to $500 for travel.

1. Abstracts are invited for a 30 minute talk (20 minutes presentation
+10 minutes for questions and discussions) on any aspect of formal
Austronesian linguistics. Abstracts are to be typed, maximum 500 words
with one optional page for data and references. Include a word count
at the end of the abstract.

2. One person may submit up to one singly authored paper and one joint
authored paper. Please indicate student status.

3. Abstracts may be submitted by mail or e-mail. Mailed abstracts may
be postmarked on November 15. E-mailed abstracts must arrive by 5 PM,
Hawaii standard time.

By mail: Send 3 anonymous copies of the abstract to the address
below. If there is an extra data page, it must be stapled to the
abstract. Include an index card with your name(s), affiliation,
mailing address, e-mail address, sub-discipline.

By e-mail: Send one copy of the abstract to the following e-mail
address, with subject heading "Abstract." Include your name(s),
affiliation, mailing address, e-mail address and sub-discipline. Any
identifying information will be removed for review.

Call for Proposals

Northeastern Illinois University (NEIU) and the NEIU Linguistics
Department are proud to host the 15th Conference of the International
Society for Humor Studies (ISHS), which will be held July 8-12, 2003,
in Chicago, Illinois, USA.  Celebrating Chicago's and NEIU's
diversity, the 15th Conference of the ISHS, welcomes proposals
reflecting diversity in humor whether socially, functionally,
ethnically, nationally, or situationally. Proposals for papers,
colloquia, posters, and workshops will be refereed by ISHS members,
who will inform the submitters of their decisions by January 31,
2003. The deadline for all submissions is December 1, 2002.  All
conference information is available on the following website

Paper Sessions

Paper sessions will consist of up to three individual papers.  Paper
presenters will be allotted 20 to 25 minutes for presentation with
additional time for questions and answers. Papers should focus on
original research in humor.  Paper proposals should include

- a completed submission form
- three copies of an abstract that is no longer than 350 words
- One of the three copies should contain the title of the paper and
the author's name, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail
address.
- The other two copies of the abstract should be accompanied by only
the title of the paper.

All prospective paper presenters must register for the entire
conference and pay registration fees at the time that they submit
their proposal.

Poster Sessions

Poster sessions will run 90 minutes with each individual poster
assigned a four-by-five foot space for presentation.  Proposals should
include

- a completed submission form
- three copies of an abstract that is no longer than 350 words
- One of the three copies should contain the title of the poster, the
author's name, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail
address.
- The other two copies of the abstract should be accompanied by only
the title of the poster.

All prospective poster presenters must register for the entire
conference and pay registration fees at the time that they submit
their proposal.

Colloquia

Colloquia consisting of three or four presentations should be planned
for a 90-minute period.  Colloquium proposals should contain

- a completed submission form
- a cover page with the titles of the colloquium and of all included
papers
- the name, affiliation, address, telephone number, and e-mail address
of the chair and of each contributor
- three copies of an overview, of no more than 350 words of the
colloquium
- three copies of each of the separate abstracts, of no more than 350
words each

All prospective colloquia chairs and presenters must register for the
entire conference and pay registration fees at the time that they
submit their proposal.

Workshops

Workshops should be planned for a single 90-minute instructional/
working session with one, two, or three presenters/facilitators.
Proposals should include

- a completed submission form
- three copies of a 200 to 350-word abstract reflecting the full
content of the proposed presentation
- the names, affiliations, addresses, telephone numbers, and e-mail
addresses of all presenters

All prospective workshop presenters must register for the entire
conference and pay registration fees at the time that they submit
their proposal.
