conference Linguistics and the New Professions. The conference
will explore emerging trends of application of methods
and concepts of linguistics to actual communication and
management problems in corporate settings.

LINGUISTICS & THE NEW PROFESSIONS (Pavia & Lugano)
CALL FOR SHORT COMMUNICATIONS - EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR ABSTRACT SUBMISSION

The new deadline for abstract submission for the short communications
& poster session is October, 31. Authors will receive notification of
acceptance by November, 10.

Excerpt from the original call follows:

Ph.D. students and young researchers are invited to submit short
abstracts for combined poster presentations/ short communications. The
range of potential topics is very broad and includes:

- From Text Analysis and Information Extraction to Document Management
and Knowledge Management
- Machine Translation and multilingual communication;
- Linguistic aspects of  the Semantic Web;
- Language and dialogue in Multi-Agent Systems;
- Linguistics and discourse analysis in Document Design;
- Linguistic approaches to multilingual/multicultural communications management;
- Linguistics and discourse analysis in Hypermedia and Web Design;
- Linguistic approaches to Human Computer Interaction and Computer
Supported Collaborative Work;
- Linguistics and E-learning.
- Pragmatics and dialogue analysis in user modelling.

Abstracts should be maximally 1 page long and should be submitted
before October 15. Only electronic submission is possible (.doc, .rtf,
.pdf or .ps format) to be sent to pavia.lugano at unipv.it .

On acceptance, in addition to the poster presentation, authors will be
given the possibility of a short (10-15 minute) presentation of their
work and will be invited to submit a short paper. After a review
process carried out by scientific committee and invited speakers, a
selection of short papers will be published in the international
journal ''Studies in Communication Sciences'' (www.scoms.ch).

CALL FOR PAPERS

Fórum Lingüístico is a bi-annual journal published by the Linguistics
Graduate Program at the Federal University of Santa Catarina,
Brazil. It is a thematic journal addressed to all areas of study
concerning language and speech. Preference is given to original
research work, presented as an article.

Fórum's editors have asked us to serve a guest-editors for the issue
scheduled to appear in the second semester of 2003, dedicated to
Psycholinguistics, but restricted to the areas of Language acquisition
and Language Processing. It should be pointed out that two ad hoc
referees invited by the guest-editors will review ALL submissions
anonymously. If necessary, a third one will be invited. Papers should
be written in Portuguese or English. It is a condition for publication
that manuscripts submitted to this journal have not been published
elsewhere.


Guidelines for submission:



- Papers should be sent in three hard copies. In two of them, the
author(s)'s name and references that may identify the author(s) must
be omitted. The title of the paper, author(s)'s name, with surname in
capital letters, academic affiliation, full address including
telephone number, fax and e-mail should be written on a separate sheet
of paper;

- A floppy disk copy should be sent also. Texts should be typed in
Word-for-Windows with no formatting other than paragraphs. The label
on the disk must identify the author(s) and software used. Disks will
not be returned.

- Footnotes should be placed at the bottom of the page, numbered from
1. References must be made within the text, in brackets, using the
author's surname, date of publication and page number, when necessary
(ex: Chomsky, 1995: 142).

- Abstract in italics, preceded by the word ABSTRACT. It should be no
longer than 100 words and followed by 3 key words.

- At the end of the paper type REFERENCES. The entries, in
alphabetical order and single-spaced. Use upper case for
surnames. Titles of books and journals in italic. Dates follow
author's name. In the second entry of a given author, his/her name is
replaced by a 5-space dash. More than one work of the same author in
the same year is distinguished by letters a, b, c . (ex: Chomsky,
N. 1995. The Minimalist Program. Cambridge, MA: MIT Press)

- Papers should not exceed 10.000 words.

- Papers that do not meet the above guidelines will be returned.



The following deadlines should be met:



March 3rd, 2003 - submission of papers

May 26th, 2003 - authors receive reviews

June 30th, 2003 - authors who had their papers accepted for publication
submit final version

September, 2003 - publication of the issue
