Description:

Applications are invited for at fixed term research post (RAIA) in
syntactic theory, for appointment from 1st February 2004 to 31
December 2005.

The successful applicant will participate in a newly funded
collaborative AHRB-funded project on ''Noun Phrase Agreement and
Coordination'' directed by Dr. Louisa Sadler (at the University of
Essex, UK) and Dr. Mary Dalrymple (at King's College, London, UK). The
project is also funding a second researcher, to be based at King's
(see separate advert). The project will conduct a number of empirical
studies of the interaction of coordination and agreement (inside and
outside the NP), and on the basis of these empirical studies will
develop a formal theory of agreement within the framework of Lexical
Functional Grammar.

Candidates should have:
 - a good honours degree in linguistics or a related discipline
 - a postgraduate research degree or experience working as a
   researcher
 - familiarity with constraint-based linguistic formalisms (especially
   LFG or HPSG)
 - an ability to work independently and collaboratively


Knowledge of a Romance, Celtic or Slavic language will be an advantage
