Description:
The Department of Linguistics and English Language at Brigham Young
University announces a tenure-track, professorial position in English
language and editing. To be considered, applicants must have a strong
background in language analysis, especially in English usage and
grammar, with a strong interest in editing. The applicant should hold
(or show strong promise of completion by the date of hire) a Ph.D. in
English, linguistics, or a related field. Professional editing
experience or a background in professional or creative writing is
highly desirable. Primary responsibilities include teaching courses in
editing, in English usage and grammar, and other courses in English
language or linguistics, including advanced courses in some area of
specialization. Additional expectations include research and creative
work in an area of specialization, supervision of master's theses, and
possible supervision of students in editing internships or other
professional editing tasks.
Faculty members are also expected to share other typical professorial
responsibilities, such as committee service, student advising, and
professional service. Starting rank and salary will be commensurate
with qualifications and experience.
